SKU W-250-HYB

The Big Dipper W-250-HYB is an automatic grease removal device for busy commercial kitchens, rated for up to 1.6 litres per second of incoming flow and 25.6kg of grease retention. Installed close to the source, it separates fats, oils and grease from kitchen wastewater, then automatically skims the captured material into a removable collection container for straightforward daily disposal.

Key Features

  • Automatic timed grease and oil skimming
  • 25 GPM / 1.6L per second maximum flow rating
  • 25.6kg grease retention capacity
  • Advanced Odour Protection seals odours within the tank
  • Digital control with selectable skimming cycles
  • 7L internal solids strainer and 7L grease collector
  • Corrosion-resistant polyethylene interior with bright 304 stainless steel exterior
  • Field-reversible centre assembly for installation flexibility
  • 2-inch / 50mm inlet and outlet connections
  • Two no-hub connectors supplied

Why Choose This Product

Choose the W-250-HYB when you want grease management to become a short, controlled daily routine rather than a disruptive manual clean-out or frequent pump-out job. Its automatic heated skimming system transfers separated grease into a portable collector, while the internal strainer captures coarse food solids before they reach the tank. For kitchens with the correct hydraulic load and a suitable installation position, this can reduce odour exposure, simplify compliance routines and make the ongoing cost of grease control more predictable.

Simply Hospitality Notes

This is a plumbing system selection, not a plug-and-play appliance. Before quoting or ordering, confirm the connected fixtures, peak flow, menu grease load, venting route, access for the daily strainer and collector routine, local wastewater requirements and the supplied NZ electrical configuration. The 1.6L/s rating is a maximum hydraulic flow, not a promise that the unit suits every kitchen producing that flow.

Product Guide

Best suited to a defined high-grease fixture such as a one- to three-compartment sink or pre-rinse station where staff can complete a simple daily emptying routine. Select it when automatic removal and predictable in-house maintenance are preferable to storing large volumes of grease for periodic pump-out. Do not select on price or pipe size alone: have the application checked against peak flow, solids load, available service clearance and the relevant local authority requirements.

Brand Guide

About Big Dipper: Big Dipper automatic grease removal systems are made by Thermaco for commercial kitchens that want point-source separation with automated skimming. The range combines non-corroding tank construction, programmable controls, internal solids capture and serviceable components. Its practical advantage is operational: separated grease is moved into a small external collector that kitchen staff can empty routinely instead of leaving a large interceptor to accumulate grease between major clean-outs.

How the W-250-HYB Works

Kitchen wastewater enters through the internal solids strainer, where larger food particles are captured. Fats, oils and grease then separate and rise within the tank. A thermostatically controlled heater prepares the grease for removal, and the programmed skimming wheel transfers it through the wiper assembly into the separate collector. Cleaned wastewater continues to the outlet.

The W-250-HYB is designed as a point-source system and is most effective when serving a defined fixture such as a one- to three-compartment sink or a pre-rinse station. Correct sizing must be based on the real peak flow, menu, grease load and local wastewater requirements.

Installation Planning

  • Installation should be designed and completed by suitably qualified plumbing and electrical trades.
  • Confirm actual peak flow and fixture loading before selecting the unit; do not size from pipe diameter alone.
  • Keep outlet piping as straight as practical, use sweep connections and provide the required venting.
  • Do not fit a P-trap directly to the unit outlet because the tank incorporates an internal gas trap.
  • Do not reduce the outlet pipe size and do not pressure-test the unit.
  • Allow full access above the strainer cover and around the collector, controls and clean-out points.
  • Fill the tank with water before energising the motor and heater.

Advanced Odour Protection is designed to prevent odours escaping through the tank lid. It cannot correct odours caused elsewhere in the drainage system, including open floor drains, air gaps, external strainers, incorrect venting or poor maintenance.

Operator Care

Daily: Empty and rinse the internal solids strainer, and empty the grease collection container before it becomes full. Weekly: Inspect and clean the wiper assembly and grease outlet trough, then test the skimming wheel. Quarterly: remove fine sediment from the tank base and complete a deeper inspection and clean as required. Always isolate power before cleaning and refill the tank with water before re-energising.
